History: The School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Shanghai University of Engineering Science was established in 2001. Its predecessor was the School of Chemical Engineering and Polymer Materials, the Engineering of the East China Institute of Chemical Technology (established in 1978), the Chemistry Teaching and Research Office of the Mechanical and Electrical Branch of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and the School of Textile Chemistry from Branch of East China Textile Institute.

Majors: The college has six majors for undergraduates: Chemical Engineering and Technology, Polymer Materials and Engineering, Pharmaceutical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Medicinal Chemistry, and Coating Engineering, three of which-- Chemical Engineering and Technology, Pharmaceutical Engineering, and Environmental Engineering-- have passed the professional certification for Engineering Education in China. Additionally, the Program of Polymer Materials and Engineering is recognized as an Outstanding Engineer Program” by the Ministry of Education. The School has established master's degree programs in Chemical Engineering and Technology. The key discipline of Shanghai-- the Natural Pesticide Chemical Engineering major, cultivates candidates for master's degrees with Shanghai Institute of Pharmaceutical Industry trains doctoral candidates with University of Ulsan, South Korea. Currently, there are nearly 1,100 undergraduates and more than 400 postgraduates in the School.

Mission: The School adheres to the University's mission developed on modern industries and serving economic and social development, and the vision of building a modern engineering and application-oriented university. It cultivatesengineering talents with a global vision, innovation awareness, and practical ability. The goal is to develop practical engineering abilities, with the characteristic of multi-dimensional education, paying attention to the three-dimensional cultivation of students' knowledge, ability, quality, and personality. It also leads students to track the frontiers of disciplines, cultivate innovation awareness, and improve innovation capabilities. For more than 40 years, graduates have shown significant competitive advantages in employment and are welcomed by employers. A large number of alumni keep active all over the world and from all walks of life.

Achievements: Based on the first-level disciplines of Chemical Engineering and Technology, meeting the needs of economic development for Shanghai and China, and focusing on the fields of new energy (energy conservation, environmental protection, and public health), the School has developed pioneering research programs such as the Preparation and Application of Chemical Functional (Polymer) Materials, Compound Design and Synthesis, Chemical Crystallization Separation, and Environmental Purification Technology. Many achievements from New Energy Materials, Pharmaceutical Crystallization Technology, and New Catalysts are at the advanced domestic level and have impacted related industries and achieved enormous economic benefits. More than 180 scientific research projects have been managed and completed in the past five years, including 15 from the National Natural Science Foundation. More than 400 SCI papers have been published, and over 50 invention patents have been authorized. Awards have also been granted for three second prizes and one third-prize for the Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award, and one third-prize for the Shanghai Technology Invention Award.

Faculty: The School currently has one full-time academician, three part-time academicians, and 85 faculty members, including 19 professors and 23 associate professors. 100% of the full-time faculty members have doctoral degrees, 26% are overseas doctors, and more than 70% have overseas study experience for more than one year. There are three national-level talents among the full-time teachers, three specially appointed professors by Shanghai universities, one ShuGuang scholar, and two PuJiang talents. Additionally, the School has hired the Chairman/General Manager of relevant industry-academia-research cooperative enterprises as a part-time or guest professor, thus forming a team of young and energetic teachers with reliable knowledge.

Infrastructure: After more than 40 years of construction and development, the School now has nearly 6,000 square meters of experimental sites for various teaching and research purposes, including Scientific Research Innovation Laboratories, Teaching Laboratories, Professional Teaching Laboratories, Analysis, and Testing Center, and Chemical Engineering and Technology Training Center. The total value of various instruments and equipment is more than 40 million yuan, including NMR, GC-MS, LC-MS, TOF-MS, FTIR, TGA, DSC, DMA, GPC, HPLC, XRD, SC-XRD, SEM, TEM-EDS, ICP, IC, AFM, AFS, Electro-Chemical Comprehensive Tester, Fluorescence Spectrometer, Fluorescence Microscope, Online Mass Spectrometer, Microwave Synthesizer, Chemical Adsorption Instrument, Automatic Analyzer for Specific Surface Area and Pore Size, Catalytic Reaction and Evaluation Device, and other instruments and equipment. Advanced laboratory equipment and instruments provide a strong guarantee for students' training, scientific research, and public service.
