College of  International Education held a cultural experience activity for Dragon  Boat Festival (Duanwu) on June 14. This activity combined Chinese  language teaching with cultural experience, aiming to improve the  Chinese language proficiency of international students, deepen their  understanding of Chinese culture and enhance the relationship between  teachers and students.

In  the language learning session, teachers from 12 classes of Beginner,  Intermediate and Advanced levels designed the Dragon Boat Festival  teaching activities according to the students’ Chinese language  proficiency with the guidance of multicultural theory, and integrated  the teaching of Dragon-Boat-Festival-related culture and knowledge into  their regular language instruction. During the cultural experience  session, the international students learned to make zongzi (Chinese rice  pudding) and herbal sachets.

The  cultural experience activity is one of the series of activities  “Perceiving China, Embracing the World” held by College of International  Education for international students. These activities not only promote  the students’ reflection on and identification with Chinese culture,  but also enhance their cross-cultural communication skills and make them  global citizens.
