A.Student Visas
Those who intend to study in China shall apply for X1 or X2 visa to enter China. X1 Visa is only valid for 30 days and invalid as soon as you leave the country. You must change it into Residence Permit in 30 days since you arrive in China.
B. Residence Permit
International Students planning to study for more than 6 months in China can apply for residence permit. Within the validity period of residence permit, you can enter or exit China with your residence permit.
For those who will study for less than 6 months, residence permit or X2 Visa can be applied according to the different situations. Generally, X2 Visa will be invalid if you leave China.
(1)the First Time of Applying for Residence Permit:
Necessary Documents:
the original copy of Admission Notice;
Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW202);
Letter of Introduction for Visa Application;
the original copy of health certificate issued by China Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine;
Registration Form of Temporary Residence;
Passport;
one 2-inch passport photo;
(2)Extension of Residence Permit
International students who will continue their study next semester must apply for the continued study and extension of residence permit.
Necessary Documents:
Letter of Introduction for Visa Application;
Registration Form of Temporary Residence;
Passport;
one 2-inch passport photo;
(3)Physical Check
Students who apply for the residence permit for the first time must take physical check in the designated hospital. Physical check can be booked by students themselves or by the university. When you take the check, you must be in the hospital on time with empty stomach. Please bring the following documents::

C.Validity of visas and Residence Permit
Students should keep their copies of passports, visas and Residence Permit, which could be the proofs if they lose or change their passports.
Students should know clearly about the visa’s types, validity and times of exit and entry, as well as the validity of their passports. You may come to the office when you have some questions.
Those whose visa is invalid will pay 500rmb per day of penalty (10000rmb maximum). In serious cases, one will even be detained or be asked to leave the country.
D. Registration form for temporary residence
When international students arrive in China, they must register in the local police station in 24 hours, and fill in the Registration Form of Temporary Residence . Those who will live on campus must bring their passports, Admission Notice and letter of introduction issued by the university. Those who will live off campus must bring their passports, Lease Contract, identification of their landlords and Off Campus Accommodation Registration Form.
Please keep your Registration Form of Temporary Residence carefully. If you change your living place, visa or enter the country again, you must apply for it again and show the school office your new Registration Form of Temporary Residence.
E.Losing or Renewing Passport
1.Losing Passport
If you lose your passport, please do the following operations:
Go to the police station where you lost your passport and report the loss of your passport;
Come to the school office and tell us the situation in order to obtain your certificate of enrollment;
Go to the Exit-Entry Administration Bureau of Shanghai Public Security Bureau and get the Certificate of loss of passport;
Apply for the new passport in your consulate in China;
As soon as you get your new passport, you must go to the school office to get the Letter of Introduction for Visa Application;
Go to the Exit-Entry Administration Bureau of Shanghai Public Security Bureau and apply for the new X2 Visa or Residence Permit.
2. Renewing Passport
If your passport is about to expire, you must go to the International Students Office to report your renewing and deal with the visa things 10 days after your new passport is issued.
F. change your visa if you suspend your study or leave the university
When students apply to suspend your study or leave the university, you must change your visa from Student Visa to Stay Permit, which is valid for at most one month.
